Europe is facing many challenges. Many of the ideas of the founding fathers are still up to date, especially at the moment when we mark a century since the end of the World War I. Although the new trends and new challenges seem to overwhelm our European societies Europe has not lost its allure. Nevertheless, in an ever changing environment the EU has to re-connect with its citizens, not only on the emotional level, but also on the political, the economical and the social level in order to shape our common European future.
The conference „The Future of Europe“ is inspired by the Commission's White Paper, and Mr. Juncker's subsequent State of the Union speech as well as statements of some of the European leaders, and aims to discuss the challenges of more or less Europe, the current challenges to the Euro-zone, the current challenges to the Schengen-Zone, the range of PESCO and other current issues. As a result of five workshops regarding the future of Europe by 70 students from the University of Zagreb a common youth declaration was presented at the conference.
